**Stoneforged: First Look- posted
by Brian
Today at our game design seminar (for those who dont know, it's an independant study course with about 5 ppl and we've been going over crap like quake 3 lvl design, 3ds max, how to be good at quake 3, painkiller demo, etc...), I decided to jokingly ask the resident Blizzard guy to show us WoW Beta.
This guy, Tim, had been in the Alpha thanks to some connections he has at Blizzard. He started up WoW and logged into his Night Elf Thief. His laptop was kinda bad in the graphics department so everything was turned down - but it still looked awesome.
He ran outside a town and some higher level aggro mobs swarmed him and killed him (he wasnt really prepared for that fight), and this got us a nice peak at life after death in WoW.
His ghost appeared in town and he ran pretty quickly at 1.5x normal speed to his corpse. Upon getting within range, a dialog box popped up saying "resurrect now?" but he ignored it and showed us the world under water. The ambient sounds were definately impressive. I didnt hear any music because Tim apparantly had turned it off and cranked ambient up earlier.
We got back on land and he returned to his body. He decided to show us combat. The first thing I noticed was that your character talks a lot about enemies being out of range, and other helpful things. His Night Elf Thief had a ton of cool looking moves. Stealth is such a cool effect, too - a lot smoother than daoc's.
Tim then showed us /dance on his night elf and his gnome. It's basically a pretty funny dance animation that loops until you move - the gnome's is hillarious if you guys get a chance to see it.
Tim told us of a quest he did as an undead in which this npc who didnt trust you sent you on some kill tasks to bring back ingredients for something. Once completing these tasks, the npc sends you to a human town to feed a doggie treat to a dog there. You place it in its dish and call it over... it slowly approaches and eats the treat and suddenly morphs into a huge mutant dog who then attacks you!
Anyways, this concludes my first impressions of the 30 minutes of World of Warcraft Beta that I saw. Most of this info you guys already knew. Tim believes there will be around 5-9 more months of Beta.

**Beta Begins!- posted
by Tom
Well its finally here, the first invitations went out over the weekend and WoW beta has begun.
With no NDA in place, expect news and information to come flooding out, especially when they finally open up the level cap to go above lvl 30. Even with all the news and information that had spread during alpha, there was still 1/2 of the game yet to be explored - Hero classes, high level encounters, epic quests, etc. This is only the beginning.....

Magic is such a curious creature. Even after years of practice I don't pretend to know all about it, luckily for you heroes just beginning, there is a wonderful guide to the Basics of Spellcasting.
