Music -- Chevelle: Vena Sera

Chevelle has always been one of those nu-metal kinds of bands with driving rock, light on ripping guitar solos or even vocal twists. However, it’s the power and drumming rhythm that has made them a success and nothing has changed in Vena Sera.

Occasionally its nice to find a band that knows what they do best and can consistently crank out songs that are unique enough to stand out from previous work, yet so familiar you could swap around the albums they're on and few people would notice. I can't think of a better band at doing this than Chevelle. Those who loved their previous offerings, Point #1, Wonder What's Next, and This Type of Thinking can do us In, will enjoy Vena Sera.

The lead track, AntiSaint brings to mind classic Tool sounds, while the second track Brainiac unleashes the same kind of edge that made The Red a hit.

The album continues to march out its thumping beats and driving guitars throughout, songs like The Fad, Straight Jacket Fashion, and Paint the Seconds and I Get It stand out from the crowd. Perhaps more than ever the label of "Tool without the fuss" is fitting for Chevelle.

Those of you who snag the album at Best Buy will be treated to a couple of bonus tracks - Sleep Walking Elite and Delivery. Usually bonus tracks are more or less throw aways, but these two are both outstanding so fans of Chevelle should make the extra effort to grab the CD with them on it.
