Music -- Red Hot Chili Peppers

Its been a while, 4 years in fact, since we've last had a new album by the Chili Peppers, so they've got a double cd release on Stadium Arcadium

I've never really understood the idea of releasing double CDs. 99% of the time there's only enough good songs to fill up 1 CD anyways. A good 75% of the time, one of the CDs ends up totally forgotten. Such was the case with the Foo Fighter's double cd released not too long ago. 1 great CD and one that I havent listened to since the first time I tried it.

With Stadium Arcadium the Peppers have something strange going on. First, they didnt beat the first statement about. Despite 28 tracks spread across 2 CDs there is really only enough quality songs to do 1 CD. However, their hit single "Dani Calinfornia" ended up on the CD that otherwise, I'd rather not have them include in the package.

Disc Two is where its at with a mix of pop-like and old school funk'n'punk rock. Some standouts include, the soft, but good "Desecration Smile"and "Tell Me Baby." "21st Century" cranks their funk rock to the max and the throw back, "So Much I" brings us back to the days of "Under the Bridge."

Outside of "Dani California" disc one contains a bunch of middle of the road tracks, mostly soft and lacking the energy the Chili Peppers are well know for. There's a couple songs that are decent and a few more than start off decent before running into trouble, but overall its a dissapointing collection.

Overall, Chili Pepper fans will find a solid CDs worth of tunes to listen to, but also be left wondering if Californication was the top of the mountain for their band and the beginning of a gradual decline into a sea of pop music.
