Music -- Oasis: Don't Believe the Truth

Oasis blew onto the scene in the mid-90s with Definitely Maybe and the hugely successful Morning Glory?. They quickly became known as one of the biggest bands in the world and in their own minds at least had a sort of Beatles following. After Be Here Now's release in 1997 though the band sort of stumbled. The Gallagher brothers problems with drinking and each other blew up in their faces. However, in 2000 they release Standing on the Shoulders of Giants proclaimed Oasis to be back on track. Since then however, nothing could be further from the truth.

Heathen Chemistry came out in 2002 and was a soft Beatles wannabe album. Their latest, Don't Believe the Truth is another step back even from that album. "Layla" is their first single and it sounds like it belongs to a Stones' album back in the 60s. In fact most of their new songs do.

It turns out to be a long draining road thru a CD of out of the past with a few occasional pitstops where you hear the real Oasis trying to break through, but ultimately ends in failure.

The Oasis that could turn out monster hits like, "Wonderwall", "Where did it all Go Wrong", and even the occasional ear catcher (of Snatch fame) like "F**ckin in the Bushes" is apparently gone. Though their lives are still full of chaos, their music has gone mellow and lost most of its edge.
