Welcome to the ZeroFold!

Music -- Coldplay: X & Y
It seems like not too long ago Coldplay's frontman, Chris Martin, was thinking about hanging it up, because he had no idea how he was ever going to top or match A Rush of Blood to the Head. Now just a short time later, inspiration has apparently hit and a new album is on the shelves.

Chris was right in one regard. There's no way they could top their previous album. Its one of the best I have ever listened to so, they went about their new one the only way they could....they reinvented their sound. Sure, Speed of Sound sounds like it could fit in the with the rest, but outside of that get ready for a more epic feel to the music and tribute is paid to 90/80's rock backdrops from bands like U2 and R.E.M.

So lets get down to it, X & Y is a huge album. It feels huge and it had to be huge to do them any credit. Right off the bat in Square One you'll notice the lack or at least down playing of the piano which dominated Rush, replaced with guitar jabs and a series of sweeping sounds layered throughout. This isn't your ordinary Coldplay and I love it.

The sound varies from soft and flowy to building and epic. Its a sound that suits them and could very well launch Coldplay to be the defining rock band of this generation. Many magazines and reviews have called them the next U2 and to be perfectly honest, from the sounds of X & Y they aren't too far off.

I'll save the trouble of going song by song and just say get this album and let it grow on you. You'll probably be a little surprised by the new sound at first, but pretty soon you'll be loving this new sound even more than the last.
